Second SMC - the Green Invest tournament!

The second instalment the SMC was "sponsored" by Green Invest and took place on Sunday, 9th September at the Verger.

What a round from The Big Easy! Ian stormed to a great victory having accumulated 39 stableford points.

Here is an extract from the official competition result sheet:-

RUSSELL, Ian MIRIBEL JONAGE 9,2 - 11 - 39 pts.

HUGHES, Timothy MIRIBEL JONAGE 21,7 - 22 - 37 pts.

RUSSELL, Neil LYON VERGER FRA 18,4 - 19 - 27 pts.

Well done Ian, a fantastic performance, bringing the top man's handicap down to 8.6!

General resolutions of the SMC-ers during the post-tournament cup of tea debriefing were that The Big Easy's uncanny abillity to get up and down make an amazing difference to the scorecard to the extent that a short-game clinic is called for. Neil reminds us that every bucket of balls hit at the range should be matched by an hour's putting practice.

Once we're all getting up and down regularly, the handicaps will come down even further!

Good luck to Ian at the MJ Grand Prix this weekend - let us know how it goes!

One-all in the SMC - next instalment to be scheduled soon!

Well, there it is - maybe not so Big Easy after all, this game of ours. I thought I could do it and had already imagined what my score might be. First mistake - think only about swinging the club - the score will take care of itself. The mind is a powerful force - perhaps THE most powerful force. The fact that we feel anxious before a competition is good - our emotions can help us play better. But if our emotions take over they can have a negative impact on our physical actions. The disapointment is over, I am humbled and am preparing myself for the next examination.
